Baked White Cheddar Mac and Cheese

Baked White Cheddar Mac and Cheese | www.thestarknest.com

There’s nothing like a bowl of cheesy, gooey, melty mac and cheese. It has to be one of my favorite foods in the world. I think I’ve enjoyed just about every kind around, from the boxed stuff to fancy steakhouse lobster mac and cheese, and everything in between. I love it all, but what I really love the most is a classic homemade recipe, one that you can share at family parties or make as a special treat for dinner. To me, the perfect mac and cheese should be super creamy, extra cheesy, with a sharp, tangy flavor. It really is the ultimate comfort food. Continue Reading

As much as I love fall, I don’t always love what comes after it. In Michigan that often means below zero temps, white-knuckle driving conditions, and a strong desire to want to hibernate in bed for the next three months. Sure, waking up to that first sparkling white snowfall of the year can be pretty exciting. But that feeling tends to fade pretty quickly as the beautiful new snow turns into endless amounts of gray slush, you forget what dry feet feel like, you have to plan an extra two hours to plow the driveway and start the car before work, and the cold air turns into “omg it hurts to breathe” air. If you’ve ever eaten at Panera Bread, you’ve probably tried or at least heard of their Mediterranean veggie sandwich. It’s been on the menu forever. In fact, I believe this may have been the first sandwich I ever tried from Panera. Over the years it has become my go to sandwich, and to this day I still find myself craving it on a regular basis. Today I am going to share a recipe with you that is near and dear to my heart – my mom’s homemade chocolate chip cookies. So to me, they will always just be mom’s chocolate chip cookies. Continue Reading

Can you believe the fourth of July is next week? I’m pretty sure I say this every year, but summer is going by way too fast! The fourth of July is definitely the ultimate summer celebration for me. We’re usually at the lake, grilling outside, playing in the water, soaking up the sun, and watching fireworks. It’s basically everything summer should be squeezed into one day. Continue Reading

Spring is finally here! I know it technically started last month, but this week I’ve really started to notice the first signs. This morning the birds were chirping when I woke up, and I’ve heard the spring peepers twice now. My mom used to tell me that when you’ve heard them three times, it’s officially spring. We’re starting to see more nature walks, bike rides, and kayaking in our near future, which totally beats working out inside the gym. All of these things indicate the beginning of spring, but in my mind, spring hasn’t officially started until we’ve celebrated Easter. Continue Reading

Wow, what a week it has been here in the Stark household. Between a three-day power outage and both my husband and I getting sick in the midst of it, we’ve certainly been having a time over here. Thank God for our parents who gave us hot meals and a place to shower, and thank God for my husband who kept our water supply stocked and our generator running while dealing with his own illness. Luckily, the power is back on today and we’re both finally starting to recover. I’m beyond happy to feel like myself again, and especially to have running water. Continue Reading
